Within the framework of a wider case study involving a number of stakeholders of the Yarmouk Region it was agreed in spring 2015 by the involved parties to develop a sustainable tourism strategy for Yarmouk Region. The decision was taken based on the notion that sustainable tourism represents a key local development alternative for the area, taking in consideration the unique natural and cultural values of Yarmouk, the awareness and willingness of the local communities and their associated government institutions to capitalize on tourism, and the increased deterioration of several unsustainable land uses which exert negative pressure on the natural and cultural asset of the area.
