  • Al Ma'wa reserve

    Al Ma'wa is located in one of the last remaining natural forests in the region. One of the main responsibilities of Al Ma'wa is to preserve the forest and all flora and fauna on the site allowing for the preservation and conservation of the biodiversity of the area. Wild animals rescued as a result of abuse and/or smuggling in and through Jordan and the region will be housed in Al Ma'wa in species specific enclosures where they will be provided with the necessary care and rehabilitation according to their needs. Where possible, local species will be rehabilitated and released into the wild. All other animals will be provided with a lifelong commitment of care and safety.

  • Center for the Study of the Built Environment

    The Center for the Study of the Built Environment (CSBE), which was founded in 1999, is a non-profit, private study and research institution that aims at addressing these challenges affecting the built environment in Jordan and beyond. The built environment is defined in a comprehensive manner to include all physical components of human settlements such as buildings, streets, open spaces, and infrastructure. CSBE is therefore an interdisciplinary center that addresses areas including environmental studies, urban design and planning, conservation, architecture, landscape architecture, and construction technologies. To accomplish our goals, we engage in a variety of activities including research projects, print and digital publishing, workshops, and the design and implementation of pilot projects.

  • Department of Biological Sciences, The University of Jordan

    The Department of Biological Sciences is the oldest of its kind in Jordan. It houses a zoolgogical musuem and a herbarium and is the home institute to a number of ecologists, zoologists, microbiolotists and botanists.

  • National Agricultural Research Center (NARC)

    NARC establishment goes back to the late 1950’s, when the Department of Research and Extension was created. In 1985, the research activities were separated from the department and enrolled under a new research center “The National Center for Agricultural Research and Technology Transfer. (NCARTT) and became a semi-autonomous institution in 1993.

    Under a generous patronage of HRH Prince Al – Hassan bin Talal, President of the
    Higher Council for Science and Technology, the project of determining the scientific
    research priorities in the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan, for the coming ten years was
    launched on 18/8/2009, with the support of the scientific research support fund, as a
    practical translation of the aspiration of the HCST to map out a clear map for the
    Jordanian researcher, and raise its glance to scientific research and its future priorities,
    by using the Delfi scientific, international methodology with the participation of
    hundreds of clear – sighted experts and specialists in scrutinizing the national needs of
    scientific research and development in the different sectors, which have been
    determined in 14 sectors, including for the first time: human, educational, social and
    Islamic sciences, as well as national security, culture, arts and information, which has
    given this contribution to the national, comprehensive feature, and reinforced the
    credibility of its outcomes, in addition to granting it a significant national value which
    deserves support at both the local and international levels.

  • IUCN welcomes the Kingdom of Bahrain as new State Member

    It is with great pleasure that IUCN has received the official notification from the Kingdom of Bahrain to adhere to the IUCN Statutes and become a State Member of the Union, bringing the number of IUCN State Members to 86.

    IUCN welcomes the Kingdom of Bahrain to the IUCN family, the world’s biggest environmental network.  The adhesion of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a State Member of IUCN will not only enhance IUCN’s presence in the region but also strengthen the Union’s capacity to influence governments, civil society and the private sector in the good governance of the world’s natural resources and environment.

    Welcoming the Kingdom of Bahrain to IUCN ROWA network, Dr Hany El –Shaer, the Director of ROWA said: “Bahrain is a country of diverse natural, marine and wildlife. The country’s diverse resources and cultural, and its growing efforts in the area of nature conservation make us proud to welcome the Kingdom of Bahrain as a new State Member of our Union.   • IUCN study identifies tree species for climate-resilient reforestation

    An IUCN study has identified tree species native to Indonesia’s Kutai National Park that are resilient to climate change and support threatened East Bornean orangutan populations, recommending their use in reforestation efforts. The study was funded by the Indianapolis Zoological Society, Inc.
